First RTC event at Beaulieu

iPads in the Classroom

To everyone that gave up their time today and came to my first RTC session, thank you.

I am conscious that I talked more than I would usually would in one of these types of session but as an opener I wanted everyone to get a feel of what is possible with the iPad. I will aim to run more specialist sessions with hands on time in later sessions. So thanks again for putting up with me but hope my enthusiasm for the topic can through and you can forgive my indulgence.

The opening quote is still one that resonates with me...
"If you teach today as we taught yesterday you rob our children of tomorrow"

While I only spent a small time discussing AirPlay its value in demonstrations an everyday learning is huge. I have come to consider it an integral part of how I deliver content.

As a recap here is how I us my iPad on a daily basis:

Before School
  • Alarm
  • Twitter
    • see a couple of bogs down how to start using Twitter if your new to it.

    • Read the draft on the iPad and dictate your note then send the email to your students

  • Research
    • Kindle
  • Twitter
  • FB
  • YouTube
    • It is a fantastic resource. Yes there is a sneezing Panda but their are so many tremendous videos that you either couldn't film yourself or don't have the time.
  • Shopping
    • I use eBay to find tech bargains for my room.
  • TV
    • Saves me arguments when the sports on.
This is only a small snapshot of the 300+ apps I use regularly and the vast majority are free. Even the paid ones are cheap. I would consider my experience typical of how students use their iPads across the globe in everyday life.

If we can integrate the way the students use technology in outside of school and bring it into school we will engage them and they will show you creativity that only digital natives would consider.
